Similar in concept, the vacuum infusion process (VIP) uses a vacuum pump to drive resin into the laminate, while resin transfer molding (RTM) uses a pressure pump as the motive force.
VIP component parts are vastly stronger and lighter as compared to open mold manufactured parts. VIP is more cost-efficient since its tooling and labor costs are much lower than other methods, and little to no material is wasted in the process.
VIP offers improved process times, consistent and close tolerance results, and higher quality control assurances, since the part can be inspected during various stages of the process.
Additional advantages of VIP include improved surface quality and reduced environmental impact; VIP reduces the amount of volatile organic compounds and hazardous air pollutants in the air, since little to no resin can be utilized in the process.
We employ a diverse range of resins—such as vinyl ester, polyester, epoxy, and dicyclopentadiene (DCPD)—and reinforcement materials—such as honeycomb cones, foam core, various fibers, and Kevlar®—to match virtually any performance requirements you have.
We also have the capacity to mold components of almost any size and geometric complexity for low or high volume production runs and prototyping.
