Cold Molding

In cold press molding, fiberglass reinforcements and catalyzed resin are placed between matching male and female, press-actuated molds for forming and curing. The resulting part has two smooth, dimensionally accurate surfaces. Color may be molded in by adding pigment to the resin system.

Cold molding is a high production process by FRP standards. While not ideal for highly cosmetic components, we have found cold molding to be well suited for functional parts such as radiator shrouds and substrates for automotive decorative components. At McClarin Composites, we have provided over 100,000 simulated automotive convertible roof substrates from the cold mold process.
